A story of covid disruption, solidarity, creativity and romance.
I&K’s wedding is personally very special to us. Our conversations extended over a few years due to covid; their wedding was held on our doorstep, overlooking our favourite snorkelling spot on the South Hams coastline; and I&K’s trusting approach to their suppliers whom they brought with them through the thick and thin of covid, meant we all knitted together as a close team and pulled out all the stops.
Imogen grew up locally, making this part of Devon and its coastline, fields and hedgerows a really important part of their wedding day. We worked with I&K to reflect this feeling in the flowers and styling and focused heavily on September field and hedgerow elements and seasonal details. We used over 30 varieties of grown, foraged and gathered flowers, seed heads and foliage to give the decorations a really deep, local Devon September vibe. I was inspired by Imogen’s trust (“you really can go loose, long and flowing if you judge it creatively”) and fuelled by their creativity (Imogen worked with Emma Beaumont dressmaker to design her own dress in the style of her mother’s – long sleeved and dropped waisted; they designed and illustrated their wedding booklets).
After the church service their wedding reception was held in tipi overlooking the sea. We created a hanging canopy within the tipi and this and the table decorations reflected the couples’ affiliation with the countryside. After the meal the tables were moved aside and guests mingled and moved beneath the leafy arms and tendrils of the hanging canopy.
Olivia and Dan, the photographers, created incredible portraits of the couple against the setting sun and captured every detail of the day with such an experienced eye.
